Founders Park
Founders Park is a 5-acre greenspace located in downtown Johnson City. Completed in 2014 as part of a stormwater retention project to mitigate flooding, the park offers an amphitheater, walking paths, a creek, and a variety of public art. Adjacent to the park is a large open-air pavilion.
King Commons
King Commons is a 3-acre recreational and event space. In addition to walking paths, this space includes an amphitheater, the Wildabout mural that showcases animals indigenous to our area, a playground featuring natural elements, and a history circle highlighting significant dates from Johnson City.

Adventure Park
The Natural Adventure Playground is downtown Johnson City’s newest park addition!! With warmer weather on the way, the Natural Adventure Park is the perfect place for youngsters and their parents to enjoy!! The park is located in the heart of downtown, directly in front of the Johnson City Public Library and beside King Commons Park!
Tannery Knobs
Tannery Knobs covers over 40 acres of heavily wooded terrain and is a short ride from downtown Johnson City. The park features off road biking trails for all ages and experience levels and paved pump track as well as stunning vistas for hiking and trail running. Ride. All. Out. at this world class park.
Tweetsie Trail
The Tweetsie Trail is the longest rails-to-trails project in Tennessee, traversing the former ET&WNC (“Tweetsie”) railroad between Johnson City and Elizabethton. This newly completed 9.5-mile trail features a compacted stone surface that crosses seven bridges and provides a flat grade for walking, hiking, running, and biking.
Wildabout Walkabout Scavenger Hunt
Enjoy your time downtown by taking part in the Wildabout Walkabout scavenger hunt! The scavenger hunt features 15 bronze sculptures that were created by students from the ETSU Department of Art and Design.
The animals were inspired from the “Wildabout” mural that is in King Commons. All the sculptures represent animals that are indigenous to the region – and some will be unexpected! Families are encouraged to learn more about these animals after their adventure.
